In an attempt to better communicate with families - and not just those whom I work with in the high school - but with all parents who are interested in the Support Groups for Parents of Children with Special Needs, I started this collaborative wiki site.
Communication and collaboration are vitally import factors for any parents; but particularly those who have a child identified with an exceptionality. In working with numerous families over the years, one issue seems to continually arise - "Where do I go to get help?" This question is typically posed in numerous ways, whether the "help" means locating resources, tutoring, behavior management techniques or IEP concerns. Therefore, this wikispace is a place I hope will assist all of us in becoming more informed...think of it as a place that we help each other by sharing questions, concerns, information & resources.
Although I am a big fan of technology as it provides easy access to many resources, I'm also quite fond of meeting face to face. If you have been in the district for the past year & have a child identified with an exceptionality, you should have received an Interest Survey for parents of children with special needs. In the event you did not receive the Interest Survey or you simply prefer to take the Online Survey, you are in luck! The Interest Survey can be taken here Online Parent Interest Survey. All surveys will be kept private and anonymous. It would be most helpful to complete this survey by August 10, 2009.
